Where Did That Pain Come From?

Have you ever had pain just -wham- hit you out of nowhere?  Something like an ache spring into your hand, a sudden migraine pop up without warning, or an incessant pain shoot down your leg out of nowhere?  Think about it; these sudden pains can most certainly turn into ceaseless issues in your every day life.  It happens to the best of us.  Some troublesome symptom to a seemingly phantom injury overcomes your body and peace-of-mind.  This need not be commonplace.

Your spine holds the key to your entire body.  This key is your nervous system.3  Chiropractors are essentially your key master (not to be mistaken with the “Keymaster” from Ghostbusters).  You can find some talented chiropractic doctors right here in Knoxville, TN with Advanced Chiropractic Associates.

If you are already aware of subluxations, then you may have experience with the virtually-magical effects that a chiropractic adjustment can have on your entire life!  These subluxations are misalignments in your spine that put a pressure on your nerves, eventually hindering those nerves from working with any semblance of efficiency.4  That is just the beginning.  Misfiring nerves can cause many issues inside and outside of your body- including a lowered or even compromised immune system.5  Getting an adjustment is not merely pain relief; it is treating the actual cause to your symptoms!

Different parts of your nervous system control diverse aspects of your body.3  You can see from the image below that the nervous system stems from your spinal cord and reaches to every single part of your body.  Wow!

Is this sketch not simply beautiful?  You can see that all through the spine, there are nerves which shoot off to every part of the body.  A Vertebral Subluxation and Nerve Chart can help you to understand where those nerves go.  I have included later on in this article.  You get one of these charts personalized to your own subluxations when you come into your friendly Knoxville chiropractic clinic at Advanced Chiropractic!

The section of spinal cord in your neck is called the cervical spine and the nerves in it are very much connected to the surrounding areas.  This includes your head and brain, throat, shoulders, and even your elbows, hands, and lungs!6  A straightened cervical lordosis, or neck curvature, is something to watch out for.  It will really mess with the nerves in your neck and cause a series of issues and a pretty painful experience.6,7

If you are walking through life with symptoms like frequent headaches, constant fatigue, and maybe a constant cough or even high blood pressure you may need a chiropractor to adjust those neck vertebrae!6  Something a bit more strange to keep in mind is that a poor neck condition can cause pain or discomfort in your arms and hands as well as asthma problems or sinus issues.6  Our Knoxville chiropractors are experts in spotting misalignment and the symptoms that go along with it.  You can feel comfortable with one of the safest, most natural, forms of treatment that we have access to.2

Have you ever been to a D.C. that just looks at you and starts asking off-the-wall questions about symptoms that you have told them nothing about?  We will not go as far as to call these studied doctors wizards (today) though we can say that they have worked very hard at learning those hidden connections between your spine and the rest of your body- to help you be the best version of yourself.

Here is that Vertebral Subluxation and Nerve Chart I had mentioned earlier.  It is a super handy guide- I love keeping the ones I get from my chiropractor on hand as a reference to my own health.  This one is a bit different than the ones I am used to; I feel that it helps to simplify and generalize things a bit.

The mid-back has always been one of my trouble areas; posture is so important!8  On the chart, you can see how large this section is (under the letter T for thoracic spine).  This large section of nerves winds up controlling a large amount of your body.9  I implore you to study this chart a bit further.  Below the thoracic spine you can see the lumbar (low-back) then sacral, or pelvic, areas.

You may find that many parts of your body, such as your heart or your colon, that have nerves stemming from different parts of your spine!  The design of our bodies is amazing and certainly intelligent.

I have had fun reviewing this with you.  Walking away from this, we can remember that the roots of the nerves in our spine are the key to a healthy and happy body.  Chiropractors doctor just that.  Just as you take your vehicle in for maintenance to prolong its life, your body needs regular maintenance too!

Never brush off that strange pain in your hand or leg, it could very well be a sign of a subluxation.  Always keep in mind that pain is one of the last signs of a problem.  Get set straight, please don’t wait!
