Chiropractic: An Essential Tool for Your Child’s Health and Development

Childhood is arguably the most important time of a person’s life.  It is when our minds are programed depending on our environment  as to what is right and wrong… along with how to act in day-to-day situations.

Interestingly enough, your body is an especially  important part of your mind’s environment.  Not only that.  Your body is the environment encasing your entire nervous system, which controls every aspect of you (pain, attitude, health… everything!).  A child  with an alignment issue in their spine may miss out on all sorts of development and growth!

The Importance of Proper Alignment in Children

A misalignment (or subluxation) can cause a whole slew of problems in anyone’s life; subluxations in children can bring about a somewhat different set of issues than adults.  Taking our children to the chiropractor for proper alignment helps them fight and prevent issues in physical and mental wellness.

When we make sure that our children’s spine and nervous system are functioning at full capacity, we are doing our kids many favors.  This proper alignment sets children up with optimum growth and development preventing harder-to-correct problems with the spine later in their lives.  Proper spine alignment also boosts nerve and brain development!

Your child’s immediate subluxation symptoms can be reason enough for visiting the chiropractor, though.

Some of these symptoms include:

Ear infections

Asthma and allergies

Colds and sore throats

Trouble focusing

Hyperactivity

Mood and behavior issues

Digestion and stomach aches

Constipation and diarrhea

Sensory integration

Headaches

Bed wetting

A stiff neck or uneven shoulders

Scoliosis

Growing pains

Correcting a misalignment in your child’s spine can even help to steer them away from labels like ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder, and many more.  Their immune system is also boosted, cutting down any colds or infections as well as helping your child to thrive at optimum health.  The Advanced Chiropractic doctors in Knoxville, TN will assess your child’s spine and get their spine back to optimal function.

Causes of Misalignments

Kids can get into a lot of painful situations.  I remember being a kid; kids completely bounce back from every little thing that is thrown at them, right?  Not exactly.  Sure, youth can have more resilience than those of us with some age- though does that mean that their bodies are made to take every hit with no repercussion?  No.

We talked about what happens when your child’s spine is out of alignment; let us take a minute to touch on what can cause those subluxations.

Physical stressors can take a toll on the spinal health of children.  School can be a big contributor to these physical stresses from things like sitting in a classroom from hours on end to lugging around heavy backpacks.  Playground incidences, falls, and sports injuries are some other culprits of subluxation.

Just as in adults, other types of stress can take a toll on the spine and nervous system of your child.  Emotional stress such as fear, and chemical stress involving diet, vaccines, antibiotics, or other medication, can trigger a “fight or flight” response inside of your child’s body- shifting their spine out of alignment.

In some cases, the misalignment in your child’s spine came from infancy or birth.  We will touch on babies and chiropractic in another article.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Chiropractors have special training that qualify them to evaluate and gently adjust your child’s spine.  Adjustments from a chiropractor are normally painless and often reported as enjoyable; of course, there are always cases where your child comes in with a painful injury.  In these cases, while the adjustment may feel uncomfortable- it will help to relieve the pain and sensitivity in general.

Children’s spines heal faster than adult’s!  Their adjustments need much less pressure and less in quantity to get their back, back into proper alignment.  Everyone is different so how long it takes your child to heal depends completely upon things like the condition of their spine and how long they have had alignment issues.

Chiropractic is completely safe for children; this is backed up by mountains of research and information compilation dating back over a hundred years!

This study  is a review of literature.  It compiled 31 different studies to find information involving the safety of chiropractic and other forms of therapy.  This study states that, in contrast, there have been very few seriously adverse effects from chiropractic in children or infants (absolutely no deaths have been found in any study or academic paper to date).  This study explained that, with proper examination and consideration, these few incidences could have been avoided.  The doctors at Advanced Chiropractic Associates take the time to study each individual that comes through the door using Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) to create the safest, most beneficial plan for each and every person.

SUCCESS!!

Constipation and Stomach Pain

My daughter who is 2 years old was suffering from stomach pain especially when trying to use the bathroom. Her bowel movements were irregular to where she was only going 2 times (if that) a week. This started about 6 months before I brought her in for chiropractic treatment. Her pain was at the point where she would literally scream when she was on the toilet trying to go to the bathroom.

She wasn’t eating as much as she was before because of the pain in her stomach. It was sensitive to touch. I tried to change her diet, milk of magnesia, and the pediatrician even recommended upping her fiber intake. All of this wasn’t helping.

After coming in for treatments on 4 consecutive days, she is using the bathroom regularly and doesn’t scream when going to the bathroom. Especially when trying to potty train a toddler it makes it easier if they can go to the bathroom. She is also eating great and has an overall better attitude. Thanks Dr. Z.

SUCCESS!!

Scoliosis

Scoliosis runs in my family, and my brother had to have rods in his back. My mom didn’t want that for me.

We have been doing treatment for several months. The treatments are very easy and non-painful.

The spine curvature has decreased!
