Weekly Health Talk with Dr.P: Lower Back Pain Stretch 3

In this week's episode of "Weekly Health Talk with Dr. P", watch as Dr. P demonstrates additional ways to modify your daily routine to avoid back pain.

So, part three in our series of lifting correctly and saving your back. And without somebody looking at you these are things you can employ immediately in your daily life. In your daily life I mean vacuuming, sweeping, lifting something from the floor, changing your bed, at your workplace, how you move. The key thing is and I told you before is the heels come up one at a time. Example is the perfect example is the golfer who picks up a ball out of the hole. He leans over and he gets all leg and hip loaded, that's what we want, that's what will save your back. Now I don't mean you've got to do that throw your leg back on everything you do, but if you remember the concept of lift and one heel comes up, one heels off the floor. So, when you vacuum, one heels off the floor. You move your legs and move your feet and then when you have to get something, most of your weight is in your leg and hip. And we don't do the bend over. Save your back. Those things take practice but if you start employing those each time, you won't be seeing me in this office. Your back will last longer, we don't get the characteristic discs herniations and bulging that occur. Your spine is just most vulnerable in the morning. Get up, get moving. Put your socks on while you're sitting  down with in or on the bed. Those little things can make a world of difference about whether you have to call me on a Saturday morning. So, keep those in mind. The next series is we're going to talk the exercises that you do to train to do these things that we just talked about, thanks.
